Building an Eezibilt Curlew in Cardboard.

The above photo shows the process of sticking the parts of the drawing to the cardboard and then cutting them out. You can save on the amount of cardboard you use by carefully working out where to put the various parts. I stuck my patterns down with Prit stick, just applying a little here and there.
Next stage to follow a little later............

I'm thinking about making a CNC router out of a minicraft drill and an old injet printer or plotter. If I can find a way to do it really cheaply, it would be a really useful tool for this stage of building...

Would be very handy if it doesn't take too long to write the program to run a CNC router. I thought they ran from a tape similar to what a fairground organ plays the music from only much narrower, the ones I ran the tape was about 1 inch wide if that with lots of holes in it at various places. A computer program would be a different matter I'm sure! Are you thinking of going in for mass production?



Anyway to continue the saga....? The instructions for building Curlew can be followed from now on...just be mindful that thr slots are not the same width as your cardboard, so cut them a little narrower. I use PVA Wood glue on my models, years ago I used cascamite and then spent the rest of the time waiting for it to go off. Anyway with cardboard and balsa wood PVA is ok as long as you seal the outer skin of the boat.
I wonder if I will ever get the hang of this? anyway Dodgy Geezer has loaded a photo of my Curlew as a finished item. I cut an area away above where the motor goes for access and stuck a piece of "deck" to cover the hole, however the hull is given two or three coats of thinned 50/50 cellulose dope, then a layer of tissue with a unthinned dope or full strength if you like then another two coats of dope, after lightly rubbing down between coats, then you can start painting it. The choice of motor is up to you, I used a small cheapo motor, with two channel radio, small £5 servo for the rudder with a 10 amp Mktronix speed controller running from 4.8 volts with Battery eliminator circuit. My battery used was 4cells AAA size. 4.8 volts.
