Loading photos to the site and adding text. ref: My Building of Curlew in cardboard

I intended to give a summery of how I built this model along with photos which I took at the various stages, What I have posted is all over the place, I don't know how to add on further commentary or additional photos. I spent a good two hours this morning trying to do just that load a photo. so I think it is going to be more difficult for anyone to follow the commentary than it will be to actually build the model that is if anyone is brave enough to even try? I was given some instruction by another member on how to add photos so at least I got that bit sorted? Anyway I have just seen in our local newspaper of these kids who have designed a built a full size dinghy using cardboard which they were sailing in, so I think my efforts with models are going to come a very poor second and might be hardly worth a mention!

As you can see I have cut away the area where the motor sits and attached a piece to the superstructure to cover the area. The motor is a cheapo job but it is suppressed. The speed controller is a 10amp Mktronics and the receiver is a 2 channel with a (£5) small cheap servo for the rudder. the cells are 4 X AAA giving 4.8 volts for the BEC system. They are under the deck where the original battery would be with the receiver between them. The propshaft is from SHG. The propellor is a commercial item but the rudder is again home made.

I think I might be getting the hang of this web site, so watch this space.:-)

When making the keel I added a little to "deepen" it a little so as to give a bit more shape to the underside of the bows. The idea is to "lift" the front up when sailing. I may have added an additional 3/8" and flared it in with the rest of the keel.

The photo immediately below shows the drawing being stuck to the cardboard before cutting out.

Remember to cut the slots narrower than on the drawing because the original used 1/16" balsa wood and the cardboard I used was slightly thinner than the balsa wood.

The photo above shows the side skins fitted and the photo above that one shows the bottom skins fitted, note the whole boat is built using cardboard from the back of writing

Hi, Mazak!

Do you find that running the boat at 4.8v results in the ESC or Rx cutting out due to low battery voltage after a while?

I was running EeZeBilts on 4.8v using this cheap and light [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] esc, and I found that it would die once the voltage went below about 4.5v. Is your Mktronics any better?
