New Modelof an Albatross
Just a few words about my new project. I found a drawing in Model Engineer Dated Dec 1955 of "ALBATROSS" built by Albatross Marine Ltd. Its a 12' 6" long sports runabout with a beam of 4' 7", powered by a Ford 1172cc sidevalve engine 35BHP or a Coventry Climax 1097cc 72 BHP. I photographed the drawing an enlarged it to suit, not a clue what ratio it is but it fitted onto 4 sheets of A4 paper long, 42" large enough to cope with Fleetwood's lake on an average day! Powered by an SC52 four stroke fitted with a flywheel but left air cooled fed by a computer fan ( I hope ).
Hope to see some of you at the Blackpool Show,
Pete

Interesting. Looks very similar to a sketch I recently did for an EeZeBilt to be made at some point at the the future...

Crickey Pete you've kept this one quiet - what a great idea a true brit classic,
will go very nicely with my big 1.5X Sea Hornet - when I can summon up the enthusiasm to finish it.
Spotted a couple of Albatross's at a full size hydroplane/classic boat event at Stewartby lake Bedfordshire, one Anglia powered, the other had a 2 litre Ford Pinto shoe-horned into it, looked a bit of a dogs dinner under the hood but went well.
Think there's a uk classic/runabout/powerboat? or whatever club website,
with lots of good photos lurking somewhere on tinternet.
I trust its going to have riveted Aluminium outer skins & deck like the fullsize boat
regards Paul

Re-construction of Alby
Hi Paul, not quite alli and riveted, but will wood and nails do! Same sort of thing. A teacher, Mr Seed, at my old school had one on Lake Coniston, we went on a walking trip from school and spent a while on the water with him and another teacher. A grand day out,( could be the title of a film !)
